Villeroy & Boch Perlemor Tableware: Plates, Cups, Bowls & More
Plates – big and small, bowls, cups, pasta plates: At some point, every household asks itself: What tableware should we choose? Keep using the inherited set? Go back to IKEA? Or invest in something more refined? Of course, these are luxury problems – but fun to think about nonetheless. So here’s a little experience report for anyone facing the same decision. Enjoy reading!

Our Decision – Balancing Style, Function & Practicality
We also had to make that choice: What tableware to buy? Pretty quickly we realized we wanted something modern – with soft gradients, irregular patterns, and a handcrafted look. The glaze should feel dynamic, like it had been randomly applied, with different tones of the same base color. One of the first brands that comes up in this style is Motel a Miio. Not a traditional name like Villeroy & Boch, Meissen, Rosenthal, or KPM Berlin – but definitely well-known in this aesthetic niche. On closer look, you’ll also find brands like ASA Selection or smaller Portuguese manufacturers offering similar designs.
Our Pick: Villeroy & Boch – Perlemor Collection
After lots of comparison, we ultimately chose the Perlemor collection from Villeroy & Boch – and for good reasons:

What Matters Most? Our Criteria:
1. Dishwasher-Safe
A must – no one wants to handwash dishes every day. Fortunately, most brands meet this basic requirement.
2. Stackability
Here’s where many designs fall short – especially pasta plates. Trendy deep plates with almost vertical sides look great but have a downside: they stack poorly. Each one adds about 4 cm in height. Stack four, and you’re looking at a 20 cm tower that might not fit in your cabinet. Motel a Miio was especially weak here – which ultimately turned us off.

3. Durability & Future Availability
What good is beautiful tableware if a plate breaks and the series is discontinued? With smaller brands or IKEA, there’s always a risk the line will vanish after a year or two. Larger, established makers like Villeroy & Boch offer a real advantage: My grandmother’s old service is still available – even decades later. Also, in terms of craftsmanship and material quality, traditional brands have the edge. When you’ve been making tableware for generations, you know what matters.

4. Aesthetics – A Matter of Taste!
Of course, this is totally subjective. Our advice: don’t just buy online – check it out in person! Especially with handmade-look collections like Perlemor, no two plates are the same. Sometimes the color gradient is more intense, sometimes softer. We especially liked the pinkish-purple tone, but not every piece had the same saturation.

Conclusion
Tableware is more than just functional – it shapes the atmosphere of your meals. Whether classic or modern, minimalist or playful: your choice should be thoughtful – not just about design, but also function and practicality. We’re thrilled with our decision – and hope our review helps you in yours!
